Carla Young serves as the Board Chair of HouseHold Maryland and brings more than twenty years of executive-level experience in business development, community engagement, and nonprofit association management. As Vice President of Membership and Community Relations for the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce, Carla has built a career centered on strengthening organizational networks, expanding community partnerships, and connecting businesses and nonprofits with the resources needed to grow.

A graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Class President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Institute for Organization Management, Carla is widely recognized for her leadership in regional economic development and community-based collaboration. She chairs the Bethesda Transportation Advisory Committee, serves on the board of Friends Club, and mentors emerging entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders across Bethesda and Baltimore.

Carla's commitment to meaningful connection, equitable access, and community impact directly strengthens HouseHold Maryland's governance capacity and strategic direction as the organization expands its affordable housing footprint across Baltimore City and Prince George's County.

Loren Gross Jr. serves as Program Director for House Hold Maryland, bringing over 20 years of management experience to the organization. He specializes in streamlining operational workflows and developing high-performing teams.

Before joining House Hold Maryland, Loren spent a decade as a Call Center Manager at Verizon FiOS, where he coached 20 professionals and consistently exceeded performance benchmarks.

His passion for financial education drives his work — he believes lasting empowerment begins with foundational knowledge, making him a natural fit for an organization built around helping Maryland homeowners make confident decisions.

Vernon Wallace — House Hold Maryland Board Member

Vernon Wallace

Responsible Fatherhood · Community Development · Nonprofit Leadership

Vernon Wallace brings more than 18 years of experience empowering fathers, strengthening families, and advancing community-based development across Baltimore. A graduate of Morgan State University, Vernon began his service career directing two Baltimore City homeless shelters, where he developed a deep understanding of the structural challenges facing vulnerable families.

He later joined the Center for Urban Families, managing the nationally recognized Baltimore Responsible Fatherhood Project. Under his leadership, the program helped fathers pay more than $400,000 in child support through an innovative debt-leveraging model that became a statewide reference point for fatherhood programming. In 2013, Governor Martin O'Malley appointed Vernon to the Maryland Commission for Child Custody Decision Making, recognizing his expertise in family stability and equitable policy.

Vernon continues to consult and train organizations across Baltimore, having engaged more than 700 fathers in recent years. His conviction that stronger fathers build stronger families aligns directly with HouseHold Maryland's mission to promote housing stability, economic mobility, and long-term community resilience.

Torey Lawrence

Torey Lawrence is a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Since joining the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2001, he has served the National Agricultural Statistics Service in a range of leadership and operational roles.

His commitment to public service extends beyond the federal government — Torey is passionate about coaching youth basketball and mentoring young people in his community, giving back in ways that mirror his professional values.

A devoted husband and father of three, Torey brings the same dedication to family and community into his role on the House Hold Maryland board — believing that stable homes build stronger futures for every generation.
